R-GIS Mentorship Program

Welcome to the R-GIS mentorship program. This page is your central hub for session recordings, weekly materials, and program resources.

Program Overview

This program covers R for GIS workflows, from foundational data handling through to spatial analysis and reproducible reporting. Sessions are held live and recorded for later review.

Schedule

Week 0: Onboarding (self-paced)

Complete this before the first live session. It takes about 30 minutes.

Install R and RStudio, verify the installation, and familiarise yourself with the RStudio interface.

Week 1: Foundations

Set up the core spatial packages and begin working with spatial data structures.

Week 2: Spatial Operations

Vector and raster operations, coordinate reference systems, and working with real datasets.

Week 3: Analysis and Reporting

Mapping, visualisation, and producing reproducible reports with Quarto.

How to Access Recordings

  1. Click the recording link for the week you need.
  2. If prompted, sign in with the email address you enrolled with.
  3. Recordings are hosted on Microsoft Teams — this site only stores the links.

Note: Recording access is controlled separately in Teams. If a link does not work, check that your Teams account has permission to view it.

Prerequisites

Before Week 1, make sure you have:

  • [ ] R installed (version 4.3 or later)
  • [ ] RStudio Desktop installed
  • [ ] The sf, terra, ggplot2, and dplyr packages installed
  • [ ] Access to the program Teams channel
